Two Methods For Installing Tee Fittings For Poly Pipes

If you’re big on DIY, working on a personal project around your home or simply trying to save a couple extra dollars by doing a pipe job for yourself, you’re in the right place. Our article features tips on how to install tee fittings for poly pipes. Read on as we get into it!

Due to how easily polyethylene pipes flex, they can be used even in the coldest of climates and it wouldn’t even crack. And in some cases where several elbows are required to get the job done, these pipes are easier to work with. Polyethylene pipes are like no other and they don’t even require welding or glue to hold them together. When it comes to getting two pieces perfectly sealed, the works on the principle of friction and it becomes relatively easy to install tees onto other pieces since the typical instructions allow both to be held together under some pressure.

The first step to installing the tee onto a barbed piece is by ensuring that you have the desired length of tube from your polyethylene roll. Be sure to properly secure and use a sharp blade to cut straight on the surface. When you’re finished, you’re going to need to place a hose clamp over the end and of course make sure that the clamps size matches that of the tubing.

Second is simply dipping the tee fitting into a lubricant that is water based. Next, you’re going to need to ensure that your dominant hand is the hand that holds the tee in place and of course the freshly cut piece of pipe in your other hand. The third step is applying pressure as your push the tee fitting into the tube while making sure to twist the fitting in order to ensure proper sealing is done.

And the fourth and last step in this relatively easy process is simply sliding the clamp on. You’ll need to slide the hose clamp in the direction of the fitting until it is roughly 1/4 of an inch away from the tubing’s end. Next, you’ll need to fasten the clamp by turning the screw clockwise with the desired nut size in order to lock the fitting snug into place.

Next, we’ll look at installing a compression poly fitting. The first step in this process is to simply use a wrench in order to hold the nut of the compression fitting in place. The you’ll need to turn one of the two lock nuts with the use of another wrench. And, you’re going to then proceed to turn the wrench until you’ve loosened the outer lock nut.

Second is sliding the end of the pipe into the slackened end of the poly fitting until you’ve felt the bottom of the pipe inside the fitting. Next, you’ll need to turn the screw with the wrench until it is secured again. It’s best to keep in mind that pipes are held in place only when the locknut has been tightened properly.

And the last step is to simply loosen the second nut. This allows for the purpose of sliding the second piece of pipe into another side of the tee fitting. You’ll then need to tighten the second piece of tubing into the fitting body in the same manner as the first. However, this exact process is also applied for the third pipe of the tee.

As we conclude we’ve looked at installing two types of tee fittings for poly pipes. DIY installations are fun and can even be rewarding in their own way. So, don’t think too much of it because it’s quite the easy process!
