How To Use Homemade Sink Cleaner To Clean Your Kitchen Sink

Kitchen sinks get a lot of use. Over the course of a typical day, they are used for everything from filling up pots and pans to washing fruits and vegetables, rinsing dirty hands, and stacking dirty dishes. In some cases, they are even used for giving small pets baths or for other unconventional purposes.

As you can well imagine, activities like these can cause germs and bacteria to build up in your sink, leaving the surface dirtier than it should be. Although there are a lot of commercial cleaning products that you can turn to for tackling messy sinks, you can also try making your own. Using homemade sink cleaner is an economical, environmentally-friendly way to create a cleaner, healthier home.

When it comes to natural cleaning products, there are quite a few options available. Try experimenting with a few different cleaning solutions to see which ones you like the best.

Lemons are not only pretty to look at but they also have powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. That makes them ideal for cleaning messy kitchens. There are a couple of ways that you can tap into the natural cleaning power of this bright yellow fruit.

One option is to make a cleaning spray using lemon essential oil. All that you have to do is add a few drops of essential oil to a spray bottle full of water. You can spray down the surface of your sink with this solution, allow it to sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it away. This will help disinfect the surface of your sink, leaving it much cleaner than when you started.

You can also cut a fresh lemon in half and use one of the halves to scrub out your sink. Simply run it over the surface of the sink, scrubbing back and forth over any areas where there is stuck-on food or grease. Again, allow the lemon juice to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it away.

You do need to be cautious when using lemons, however, since they are acidic. Make sure that the material that your sink is made out of can safely be cleaned with lemons before trying either of these methods.

Another option is to use vinegar. Like lemon juice, vinegar also fights bacteria, viruses, and fungi. You can make a simple cleaning spray by mixing equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. In the evening, simply spray down your sink and wipe the mess away to leave it fresh and clean for the following day. Again, make sure that vinegar is safe to use in your sink before trying this method.

The last option is to use baking soda to scrub out your sink. This works well for sinks with durable finishes like stainless steel. The abrasive nature of baking soda helps it break down stuck-on food particles so that they can easily be rinsed away.

As you can see, there is no need to rely on store-bought cleaning products. Instead, you can make your own natural sink cleaner from products that you most likely already have on hand.
